What’s the perfect food for my dog?

Finding the perfect recipe for your dog isn’t always that easy. Especially if your dog is fussy, or has special needs or allergies. To make your search for the perfect recipe a bit easier, we made a shortlist of the most common ‘problems’ and the recipe(s) we recommend for a healthy and happy dog. Let’s go!

Allergies or intolerances

Do you know which food(s) your dog can't tolerate well or is allergic to? Great! Just use our product filters to find a recipe that doesn't contain those ingredients. If you’re not sure your dog has any sensitivities, it’s best to check with your vet. Or read our blog on allergies and intolerances for more information.

The most common allergies in dogs are for beef, dairy products, chicken, wheat and soy. Our hypoallergenic recipes are the perfect match for any dog with this kind of allergy. Hypoallergenic simply means the recipe is less likely to cause an allergic reaction or intolerance. We have three yummy flavours: Fresh Venison & Free-Run Duck, Fresh Norwegian Salmon and Fresh Grass-Fed Lamb.

Losing weight

It can be quite easy for a dog to become overweight. The good news is: all our recipes can be used to help your dog become a healthy weight. The number one rule is to feed your four-legged friend the right daily amount of calories for their needs.

There are a few things to take into account to work out a dog’s daily calorie allowance, including their activity levels and whether they’re neutered or not. A neutered dog tends to have less energy, so we recommend giving them 10% less than a non-neutered equivalent portion. You should also calculate their needs based on the desired weight of your dog, not their current weight.

You can find our feeding guidelines on all our packaging. Or, if you want to double check your sums, send us a message via our chat in the bottom left-hand corner and we will calculate the daily amount for you.

As well as feeding your dog the right amount to help them lose weight, we recommend limiting the number of treats they receive - and that includes a ban on table scraps. If you’re concerned about your dog’s health as a result of their weight, it’s best to check with your vet and if needed switch temporarily to a special diet.

Sensitive stomach

The most common cause of an upset tummy is simply that your dog cannot digest their food very well. Symptoms include flatulence, vomiting or diarrhoea. If you know what your dog's stomach reacts to, you can easily find a recipe that doesn’t include those ingredients with our Food Finder.

If you don’t know which ingredients are causing problems, we recommend our recipe with Fresh Venison & Free run Duck. It’s grain free, contains novel proteins and carbs ánd also mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS) and fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) - all things that have a very positive influence on good digestion. Read more about the positive impact of these ingredients in our sensitive stomach blog.

Sensitive Skin

Dog’s usually have sensitive skin as part of a negative reaction to a specific ingredient. For that reason, we recommend our hypoallergenic recipes in this situation. In particular, our Fresh Norwegian Salmon kibble recipe is great for soothing sensitive skin because it contains lots of Omega 3, which provides an extra boost to your dog’s skin and coat.
